Bring the Vintage Home

Friday 20th, September 2013 / 09:39

A lot of the time, buying vintage is the better way of adding interest to your home in a unique and timeless way. It is sometimes much more affordable as well, than buying brand new standout pieces. As you’ve probably seen on every DIY blog out there, amazing things can be done with just a little time and effort. If you have never been or even if you have, here are some tips that will make your next trip blissful and successful.

The Root Source

The first thing you want to do is to find a good source, and secondly is to visit it frequently. This way, you can build relationships with the vendors and store owners and as a result, you will be more informed of what deals and/or promotions are coming up.

Look For Good Quality Pieces

Although you are buying vintage, you should still look for gently used furniture that’s not too broken down. It will save you time, money, and the hassle of refurbishing upholstered furniture. And don’t let surface scratches scare you, because in most cases they can be easily fixed up.

Drive A Hard Bargain

On the other hand, if you do find defects it can be a great way to bargain for the price of the object. Bargaining for a good price is half the battle in finding a good piece of furniture! But before you negotiate, make sure that the defects can be fixed at a price that won’t drive up the total cost too high. That’s how you get yourself a deal!

Keep An Open Mind

When looking for vintage pieces, forget about brand names. Though it would be nice to find familiar brand names, don’t let that confine you and keep you from discovering other great brands and manufacturers. Bottom line; just look for quality furniture that is well made.

Show Up Prepared

Lastly, you have to make sure the furniture pieces you are buying will actually fit into your space. So before you set out on your vintage journey, measure the areas that you are buying for and take a measuring tape along with you. It even helps if you take pictures of the spaces on your phone so you can have them with you when you’re shopping for the pieces; it will give you a better visual.

Keep Your PJ’s On

If you don’t necessarily have the time to shop around different places or would rather not wake up super early on a Sunday morning to brave the buzzing crowd of shoppers, you my choose to start your vintage shopping trip by looking for a piece online, from the comfort of your own home! We only suggest doing this if you’ve had some experience in the real vintage shopping world so that you know exactly what to look for and to ensure you get the best product you can.
