Fancy Flats

Wednesday 16th, October 2013 / 09:34

Now, I know every lady out there has at least one pair of flats and if you don’t, a pair of basic flats is definitely worth investing in. Not only are flats easy and comfortable they have become an essential to any woman’s wardrobe. They are no longer strictly reserved for casual day wear but have also proven to be just as chic and stylish when worked into an array of ensembles from office attire to black tie. Throughout this series I’ll be listing out some different types of footwear that maybe you haven’t thought of or been wanting to try out but just don’t know how to go about it. Maybe you are looking to upgrade your off duty ensembles by switching from tennis shoes to something a little more chic or you could even be interested in slipping your feet into something a little less high maintenance than your strappy heels to run errands. Either way you paint it, flats are getting progressively more popular and with so many fun options this season you are bound to find one (or a few) that suit your fancy.

Flats are a versatile pair of shoes that allows us to be comfortable yet stylish and if you want to add a pop of colour or a bit more interest, starting with your footwear is usually the easiest way. Instead of going for a basic colour like black or nude, why not try a animal print? It’s not surprising that throughout each season animal print is always a go-to because it compliments just about any wardrobe. My favourite? I love the leopard print flats – they add just a little pop of pattern and texture to any basic outfit such as a pair of skinny denim jeans with a slouchy oversized sweater.

If you are not into the whole animal print design, don’t worry! There are plenty of other patterns that might suit your style and personality. The best type of print to start out with would be an abstract or floral. My suggestion when searching for a bold print flat is to choose a pair that can be versatile with any outfit. Look for prints that have primary colours like cobalt blue or red. They add a of pop of colour and pattern that doesn’t overwhelm you or the outfit. Try an outfit with neutral tones (taupe, brown, black, grey) to give it a sophisticated flare.

If heels are definitely a no go to you for a night out, why not try a dressier flat style? Flats are no longer strictly reserved for casual day wear but have also proven to be just as chic and stylish when worked into a formal ensemble. From glitter to rhinestones to lacy appliques this sophisticated look is easier than ever to achieve. Try wearing a simple little black dress, slip on some comfy crystal embellished flats, and get ready to dance/walk/shop your night away.
