Sister Act: DreamBoat Lucy
Meet the sister duo designers behind Dreamboat Lucy, Louanna and Hilary Murphy. These two ladies hail from the quaint east coast province of PEI. We are in love with their application of geometrics and pops of color throughout their latest collection, and we thought you might be too. Stylust Magazine was fortunate enough to catch up with the two busy bees to get the latest on their emerging line. Enjoy!
SM: Explain your collection in 140 words or less.
Our design aesthetic is a mixture of feminine silhouettes and rock and roll with a retro feel. For our fall/winter collection we were inspired by the idea of an all girl traveling rock band from the 70′s. We’ve created looks that would suit all aspects of their tour ex. performing, interviews, lounging on a tour bus, etc.
SM: You have quite the team happening here. How do you find working with family is?
Louanna and I have a very similar aesthetic when it comes to fashion. Because of this we have found working together to be a breeze. By working in different mediums, we are able to give each other feedback from different perspectives and feel comfortable being open and honest with one another.
SM: How was your experience with LG Fashion Week in Toronto?
DBL: Dreamboat Lucy was accepted to show at Fashion Week but we decided that we would rather wait until we were more established as a brand to get involved in such a large production. We learned a lot about what showing at fashion week would entail and will benefit from this knowledge when we decide we are ready.
SM: What is going to be next for Dreamboat Lucy? Any big and exciting plans?
DBL: We will soon be going into production to fill orders for our fall/winter line and by mid August we will start designing our spring/summer collection which we are really excited about! We are thinking bold, bright, geometrics!
SM: Will we be seeing DBL on the west coast in the future?
DBL: We are currently being carried exclusively at Biscuit General Store in Halifax, N.S. and are looking to expand into other retail locations across Canada. We are hoping you will see Dreamboat Lucy on the west coast soon!
